Murder Defendant Claims Illegal Search

Attorneys for multiple-murder defendant David Edward Attias renewed illegal-search claims in court documents seeking dismissal of charges, but prosecutors said the most disputed evidence won’t be used during trial.
Attias, 18, is charged with 13 counts of murder, manslaughter and driving under the influence of drugs for allegedly running down five people with his car in Isla Vista on Feb. 23. Four people were killed.
The lawyers accuse California Highway Patrol investigators of reading or copying materials protected by the attorney-client and psychotherapist-patient privileges, which bar anyone from viewing them without the patient’s permission or a court order.
