Re “CHP Chief Drops Plan to Lease Private Jet for Governor’s Use,” Sept. 27: Now that Gov. Gray Davis is no longer looking for a plane, maybe the governor and CHP Commissioner D.O. “Spike” Helmick can divert that $960,000 to the 700-plus CHP 911 dispatchers who serve this great state.
The CHP’s 911 dispatchers have fallen to become some of the lowest-paid 911 dispatchers in California. If the CHP can give its officers mandatory pay parity and a five-year contract, why can’t it do the same for its 911 dispatchers? We have been asking the CHP to do this for years. I guess we have a lot of nerve asking for money. The CHP won’t even supply 911 dispatchers with uniforms. Is it any wonder that our turnover rate exceeds 50%?
