Lecture Takes ‘Wing’

“Self-indulgent,” “sophomoric” and “superficial” all came to mind as I forced myself to sit through Wednesday night’s special episode of “The West Wing.” Predictably, producer Aaron Sorkin devoted most of the script to sermonizing about inappropriate responses to terrorism.

Given the proportions of the massacre of Sept. 11, the American public does not need to be scolded for our feelings of rage toward the perpetrators and our resolve to gain retribution. To feel less or to do less would be to dishonor the 7,000 victims and cause irreparable damage to our country.

Wednesday night, Aaron Sorkin produced the most expensive episode of “Cable in the Classroom” ever! Thank God, now I know how Sorkin feels about terrorism (he’s against it).
