Chatsworth 21, Granada Hills 20--Marcus Thomas scored on a three-yard run with 5:29 left and the Chancellors held on to win a West Valley League game at Chatsworth.
Jo Shumpert rushed for 136 yards in 24 carries for the Chancellors (5-0, 2-0) and set up the winning score with a 62-yard halfback option pass to Joe Demby and an 18-yard run to the Highlander three-yard line.
Matt Streid blocked a Chatsworth punt and the Highlanders recovered at the Chancellors’ nine-yard line.
Aeric Abrams caught a touchdown pass from Luke Sniewski on the next play to pull Granada Hills within 21-20 with 1:30 left, but Sniewski’s two-point conversion pass was incomplete.
Sniewski completed 15 of 26 passes for 239 yards and three touchdowns. Abrams had six receptions for 129 yards, including a 71-yard touchdown catch that gave Granada Hills (4-1, 1-1) a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
Jason Moss scored on a 25-yard run late in the first quarter and Shumpert returned an interception 20 yards to tie the score14-14 with 5:26 left in the second quarter.
Jermaine Bogle rushed for 123 yards in 18 carries and scored on a 36-yard screen pass for Granada Hills.
