A decade after first authorizing its construction, Congress has agreed to pay for a memorial to Indian warriors who fought at the Battle of the Little Bighorn.
“I’m still on Cloud Nine on this,” said Neil Mangum, superintendent at Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument near Crow Agency in southeastern Montana.
Congress approved $2.3 million to build the memorial at the battlefield, where Lt. Col. George A. Custer and his 7th Cavalry troops were wiped out 125 years ago. The plan now goes to President Bush for approval.
