Serbian President’s Immunity Expires

Serbian President Milan Milutinovic’s term expired at midnight, officials said, lifting his immunity against prosecution and opening the way for his extradition to a war crimes court.
Milutinovic was indicted with former Yugoslav leader Slobodan Milosevic and three other officials on charges of atrocities against ethnic Albanians in the Serbian province of Kosovo.
Yugoslavia has declined to send Milutinovic to the U.N. court because of his immunity, but Nebojsa Sarkic, the nation’s assistant justice minister, said authorities might start proceedings today to hand him over.
