An ex-diplomat convicted of spying for South Korea lost his appeal in Russia’s Supreme Court.
Valentin Moiseyev, a former deputy chief of the Foreign Ministry’s Asia desk, was convicted in August and sentenced to 4 1/2 years in prison for passing secrets to Seoul.
Moiseyev’s trial is one of several recent cases of Russian citizens accused of espionage because they have had contacts with foreigners. Human rights groups have criticized the cases. Moiseyev said he will appeal to the Supreme Court presidium, a higher body within the court.
