Miami Beach city commissioners voted to ban “camping in public places,” a move the American Civil Liberties Union described as a thinly veiled attack on the homeless.
Commissioner Luis Garcia said the city hoped to improve the overall quality of life by keeping the homeless and others, such as intoxicated revelers, off the streets.
Police officers must offer violators a chance to stay in a homeless shelter, and those who refuse can be arrested or fined.
