B2K Debuts Behind ‘O Brother’

After topping the nation’s singles chart for nine weeks with its snappy “Uh Huh,” the Los Angeles R&B-pop; teen quartet B2K almost took over the top spot this week in the album chart with its self-titled debut collection.
But the continuing post-Grammy surge of the “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” soundtrack proved too great a hurdle. The country- and bluegrass-minded package sold 149,000 copies last week, giving it a comfortable lead over B2K, whose album sold 109,000 copies in its first week in stores.
The only other new collections to enter the top 30 this week are the “Resident Evil” soundtrack, Destiny’s Child’s “This Is the Remix” and the Indigo Girls’ “Become You.”
Joining “O Brother” and B2K in the top 10, in order, are Alan Jackson, Alanis Morissette, Brandy, Linkin Park, Ludacris, Pink, Kylie Minogue and Jennifer Lopez.
Though “O Brother” had already sold nearly 4 million copies and been in stores for more than a year, the album has enjoyed a major sales resurgence after winning the Grammy for album of the year on Feb. 27. It has sold more than 500,000 additional copies since then.
B2K’s “Uh Huh” single, meanwhile, has fallen to No. 3 on the singles chart behind Mr. Cheeks’ “Lights, Camera, Action!” and ‘N Sync’s pairing with Nelly on “Girlfriend.”
