Gregory Resigns as Ayala Basketball Coach

Tom Gregory, the only boys’ basketball coach in Ayala High history, has resigned, ending a 12-year run marked by 10 consecutive 20-win seasons and quarterfinal appearances in the Southern Section playoffs. Gregory notched his 400th career victory during the 2001-02 season as the Bulldogs won their sixth Sierra League title in seven years.
“I’m definitely not going to coach for a year,” Gregory said. “That’s the pep talk I gave myself when I decided to leave Ayala.”
Gregory has been slowed by his recovery from off-season hip replacement surgery and said he wants to spend more time with his family.
Gregory’s Ayala teams had a 253-75 record. He also coached 11 years at Anaheim Savanna High. His career record is 407-179.
