Top Finalist Named for District Superintendent

From Times Staff Reports

An administrator in the San Diego Unified School District is the top finalist for the superintendent’s post in the Santa Paula Elementary School District, officials said.

On Friday, a team of school board members, teachers and community members visited colleagues of Luis C. Villegas Jr., the executive administrator of San Diego Unified. Details of a contract with Santa Paula are expected to be considered at the May 14 board meeting, said trustee Michelle Kolbeck.

“He fits all of our needs here,” she said. “He has the vision; he is bilingual. He has the education, the energy and the expertise required.”

Villegas would replace former Supt. Bonnie Bruington, who retired last fall. Kenneth Moffett, a retired superintendent from Los Angeles County, has been filling the job on an interim basis since then.
