Inglewood Tops Card

While Churchill Downs will be dark this afternoon after its signature event Saturday, there will be plenty of racing around the country for those who cannot get enough.

Hollywood Park’s nine-race card is headed by the $100,000-added Inglewood Handicap at 11/16 miles on the turf and Aqueduct will conclude its meet with the $100,000 Beaugay Handicap, also at 11/16 miles on the grass.

Forced out of the $6-million Dubai World Cup because of problems with his feet, Redattore, who was last seen winning the San Antonio Handicap on Feb. 3 at Santa Anita, will return to the turf in the Inglewood, a Grade III being run for the 62nd time.

Owned by Luis Alfredo Taunay and trained by Richard Mandella, the 7-year-old, who was bred in Brazil and made his first 11 starts in South America, has won seven of 13 on the lawn. His victories in 2001 on the surface included the Grade I Eddie Read Handicap at Del Mar and the San Francisco Handicap, a Grade II, at Bay Meadows.

Trainer Bobby Frankel is scheduled to send out Sumitas and El Gran Papa, and Seinne will try for his second consecutive victory for trainer Ron McAnally. The Chilean-bred won the Arcadia Handicap a month ago at nearly 13-1. The Inglewood lineup is completed by longshots Night Patrol, Gallant and Kerrygold.

At New York, Voodoo Dancer is the filly to beat in the Beaugay. Trained by Christophe Clement, the 4-year-old Kingmambo filly has won six of nine on the turf and will be ridden by Jerry Bailey.

Race of the day: Surya won’t be any price in today’s sixth at Hollywood Park, but the Unbridled filly looked like a future star when she made her U.S. debut last summer at Del Mar and it will be interesting to watch her comeback for trainer Bobby Frankel.

Who’s hot: Martin Pedroza. The rider warmed up with three victories Friday.

Who’s not: Caesar Bisono. The jockey lost with 39 of his first 41 mounts at Bay Meadows.

Exotically speaking: A pick four singling Surya in the sixth and Benderosa in the seventh, using all in the eighth and Mr. Will, Treasured Note, Klem and Danceascore in the ninth.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 0/21. Money: Previous day/meet total: $0/$114. Total money bet: $156.
