The State Department recently issued a new warning on Peru, urging U.S. citizens to be alert to terrorist activity by Sendero Luminoso and other groups, particularly in the weeks before and after May 17, an anniversary for such groups. The advisory said there are indications that terrorist organizations are planning actions against Americans and asked U.S. citizens to avoid crowds, especially areas that draw Americans. The State Department also updated information on the Philippines, noting that there have been armed attacks, slayings, bombings and other violent incidents against foreigners.
