Re “Quench Fires of Hatred to Protect Diplomats” (letter, Nov. 1): I agree in principle that the U.S.’ foreign policy places American citizens traveling abroad in peril, but a broader issue must be addressed. The terrorist bombing in Bali killed people of many nationalities, mostly Australians. Our self-serving foreign policy places everyone at risk -- not just Americans.
Until all nations abandon limited national self-interest in favor of global cooperation, the problems for all citizens of the world will remain. I see a lot of “God Bless America” stickers these days, and that kind of patriotism is wonderful. How about “God Bless Our Planet”?
