Monica Wiesener, ranked No. 10 in Southern California in the girls’ 18 division, will not play for Calabasas High this season and is not enrolled at the school this fall.
Wiesener, a junior, has enrolled in home-schooling by correspondence through Laurel Springs Academy in Ojai and plans to concentrate on competition in International Tennis Federation and Challenger-level tournaments this year.
“I really want to do this and make a go of it,” Wiesener said.”I’ve been playing in a lot of tournaments and doing really well lately, and if I want to keep it up, I won’t really have time for school.”
Wiesener advanced to the round of 16 in the Southern Section individual tournament each of the last two seasons. She helped the Coyotes reach the Division IV team finals in 2000 and semifinals last year.
