2nd Teenager Diagnosed With Meningitis

A 17-year-old junior at Marysville High School has been diagnosed with meningococcus meningitis, Yuba County health officials said.

It was the second case in less than a week in which a Northern California student has been diagnosed with the highly contagious infection, which causes inflammation of the spinal cord and brain fluids, and can be fatal.

Last week a Galt High School senior was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis. School officials said Monday that the female student was in stable condition in a local hospital.

Marysville school officials said those who had close contact with the student were receiving antibiotics, and all parents have been given information about meningitis.
