Chavez Holiday
How ironic it is that I got a day off (Wednesday) to “celebrate” Cesar Chavez and the good he did for farmworkers. As a state employee, I stayed home and was paid. Meanwhile, those for whom Chavez fought toiled in the sun. They don’t get holiday pay. Instead, they had to work in order to pay taxes to pay me and other state employees. It is truly shameful that this “holiday” is funded on the backs of those it was intended to celebrate.
