Man Gets Life Sentence for Fatal Bus Hijacking

LOS ANGELES
A man who commandeered a city bus and led police on a chase that ended with a fatal crash was sentenced Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Carlos Ray Garcia, 43, of Reseda was convicted of capital murder after hijacking the bus on May 2, 2001, to evade police after shooting a man. Garcia led police on a pursuit through downtown Los Angeles, where he crashed into a minivan driven by Guadalupe Arevales. The mother of three was killed instantly.
