Bees Spilled in Crash Snarl Highway Traffic

A swarm of bees snarled traffic for nearly 12 hours on a winding Sierra foothill road east of here.
A beekeeper hauling hundreds of hives in his truck hit a cow late Tuesday on California 190 about 10 miles east of Porterville and crashed into a bridge, freeing millions of bees.
Jerry Tillery of Porterville was driving west with about 300 boxes of bees on the back of his truck, the California Highway Patrol said.
Tillery’s truck flipped onto its side and went off the road, where it landed in a ditch.
Tillery, 64, was taken to Sierra View District Hospital with major injuries.
His condition was not immediately known.
