County Considers Laying Off 394 Workers

San Diego County will cut 983 vacant government positions and consider laying off 394 employees by July in an effort to bridge an estimated $151-million shortfall in state funding.
Current employees whose jobs may be eliminated are being notified this week, but the county Board of Supervisors will not vote on which positions to cut until next month.
Employees in child-support collections, probation and social services may lose their jobs, county spokesman Michael Workman said.
