From Times Wire Reports
Opening statements in Scott Peterson’s double-murder trial may be delayed because jury selection is behind schedule.
As of Wednesday, 56 potential panelists had been selected and 62 remained to be questioned, court officials said.
Many potential jurors have been excused from serving for various reasons, including opinions that Peterson is guilty.
Judge Alfred A. Delucchi has said he wants 70 to 80 potential jurors before attorneys begin final selection of 12 jurors and six alternates.
Opening statements are scheduled for May 17.
