Laidlaw OKs Unionization

An Irvine-based bus company that provides transit services for the Orange County Transportation Authority agreed Thursday to let 500 drivers unionize. Amid a union election, Laidlaw Transit Services opted to let drivers who work under an OCTA contract be represented by Teamsters Local 952. The drivers operate transit vans and small fixed routes for OCTA.
Union officials said they want to concentrate on improving wages, medical benefits, and working conditions for the Laid-
law drivers, who make $8 to $12 an hour.
