Jury Backs Death for ‘Sausage King’

A jury decided Tuesday that self-proclaimed “sausage king” Stuart Alexander should be executed for killing three meat inspectors.
Alexander, 43, was convicted in October of three counts of first-degree murder for the 2000 shooting deaths of two federal inspectors and one state inspector at his Santos Linguisa factory in San Leandro.
The incident was captured on Alexander’s surveillance videotape, which he turned on before the shootings and which was shown repeatedly to jurors during the five-month trial.
Alameda County Superior Court Judge Vernon Nakahara will formally sentence Alexander on Feb. 15. The judge will have the option of reducing the sentence to life in prison.
