5 Police Officers Hurt in Raids for Stolen Millions

Police raided properties in two Irish Republican Army strongholds of Belfast, searching for $42.5 million stolen from a bank’s underground vault.
Among the properties searched was the home of Eddie Copeland, a reputed IRA commander in Ardoyne, a hard-line Catholic enclave in north Belfast. Outside another site, in Belfast’s Ballymurphy neighborhood, protesters threw rocks and bottles at officers, injuring five of them.
Police did not report any progress in their hunt for the gang responsible for the robbery of the Northern Bank headquarters. The IRA has denied that it was involved in the heist.
