Pacific Finishes Big to Beat UC Riverside

David Doubley scored a game-high 18 points, and Pacific began defense of its Big West Conference championship Tuesday with a 58-45 victory over UC Riverside at Stockton.
The Tigers (6-2, 1-0) ended the game with an 8-0 run after Riverside had closed within five points with 4:14 remaining. Pacific won its 14th consecutive Big West regular-season game dating to last season and prevailed in its Big West opener for the seventh consecutive year.
Reserve Justin Bell scored 10 points to lead the Highlanders (4-5, 0-1).
UC Santa Barbara 54, Long Beach St. 47 -- Casey Cook had 15 points and nine rebounds to lead the Gauchos at Santa Barbara.
The Gauchos (3-5, 1-0) held the 49ers to 30% shooting, which included one for 18 from beyond the three-point line.
Long Beach (2-8, 0-1) got 19 rebounds from Travon Free and 11 points from Cody Pearson.
UC Irvine 85, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 75 -- Junior guard Ross Schraeder hit six three-pointers, and scored 20 points to lead the Anteaters at San Luis Obispo.
Freshman forward Darren Fells scored a career-high 15 points, senior center Greg Ethington had 14 and sophomore forward Nic Campbell recorded 11 for UC Irvine (6-2, 1-0).
Junior center Phil Johnson scored 18 points for the Mustangs (2-6), making seven of 10 shots from the field. Nick Enzweiler had 15 points and a career-high 11 rebounds.
