Pace of new-home sales slows by 5.1%

Sales of new homes nationwide unexpectedly fell in December to a seasonally adjusted 1.06-million annual pace, the slowest in eight months.
The 5.1% decline followed a 2.8% decrease to a 1.117-million rate in November, the Commerce Department said. For all of 2003, sales reached 1.085 million, topping 2002’s record 973,000.
