What’s the matter with kids, anyway?

Apparently children are one of the last segments of society that’s still acceptable to openly hate.
Intolerance such as that unashamedly flaunted in “He’s Sticking With Adult Companions” [Letters, Jan. 4] and “Kids and Travel: Mixed Feelings,” [Letters, Jan. 18] is a scourge of society.
Instead of being scorned, parents who make the effort to expose their kids to many places, situations and people should be commended. It’s not easy, but it pays off -- for all of us. These kids grow up to be more sophisticated, socially aware, tolerant adults. There’s no question that kids can be annoying. But is there a more important and vital part of our population? Can’t we endure a little noise, a little age-appropriate behavior?
