Oxnard police are investigating the shooting death of a man found slumped on a couch in the back room of a friend’s house, authorities said Tuesday.
The body of Oscar Manuel Villa Cortes, 27, of Oxnard was found in a room attached to a house in the 700 block of M Street, authorities said. Cortes died of a gunshot wound to the head, according to the county coroner’s office.
The case is being investigated as a homicide, Oxnard Police Cmdr. Bryan MacDonald said.
The victim and another, unidentified man had gone to the M Street house of a friend, Jesus Cortez, 37, after a night of drinking, MacDonald said. Cortes was shot early Monday and died before police arrived at 6:30 a.m., he said.
No weapon was found. Detectives are still looking for the unidentified man who was with Cortes when he arrived at the house, but MacDonald said police were “not sure who the assailant is at this point.”
He said Cortez was not a suspect.
