Missing out on the big picture
I love “Buffy” as much as the next guy but come on! Michelle Trachtenberg might as well spend her favorite weekend at a mini-mall in Sunnydale (My Favorite Weekend, Feb. 19). She’d clearly be happy in just about Anywhere, USA.
Can’t you guys put a clause in the column that bans mention of chains and brand names? I acknowledge that Michelle is clearly one cog in the mechanics of what fuels our grand city but, please, a whole paragraph devoted to what ice-blended she orders at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and another that details her take on the In-N-Out menu?
L.A. is unique; we do have a personality. Let’s celebrate it!

On hiatus from the dating game
I wanted to respond to Dog Davis’ column with great empathy (“Dating a Very Special Someone: Himself,” Feb. 19). Even though we are in drastically different situations, (I am widowed and considerably older than you), our emotional predicament is not so different.
Doggie dear, I too am on a self-imposed vacation from dating. I’m very tired and very discouraged. It’s not that I think Mr. OK isn’t out there, it’s that I just don’t have the energy to keep looking. I can’t grow a beard and emotionally couldn’t handle not flossing, but I can curl up with my favorite book, rent some movies and cook dinner for friends.
