Ex-Dynegy Exec Appeals Sentence After Ruling

Former Dynegy Inc. executive Jamie Olis, who is serving 24 years in federal prison for accounting fraud, has asked a judge to be freed on bond because a Supreme Court ruling last week may invalidate his sentence.
The high court ruled last week that sentencing guidelines used by the state of Washington were unconstitutional because they allowed a judge to lengthen a sentence based on facts not considered by a jury.
Olis’ sentence was based on a prosecution estimate that more than 50 shareholders lost more than $100 million because of an accounting fraud he orchestrated.
U.S. sentencing guidelines, which a judge used to calculate Olis’ prison term, are similar to Washington state’s.
