* Peter Boylan, Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc.’s former operating chief, has tentatively settled a Securities and Exchange Commission lawsuit over claims that he helped mislead investors, court papers say. The settlement, which wasn’t detailed, must still be approved by the agency’s commissioners.
* Royal/Dutch Shell Group said the overstatement of its proven oil and gas reserves and inappropriate accounting in other business segments resulted in profit being exaggerated by $432 million.
* The California Assembly passed a resolution urging Shell Oil Corp. to keep open a Bakersfield refinery set to close in October. The resolution asks Shell to keep producing diesel and gasoline until year’s end to allow a buyer to be found. Shell said the refinery was being closed because the crude oil from the Kern County fields was drying up.
* Boston Scientific Corp. said it had recalled about 200 drug-coated heart stents after one patient died and 16 were seriously injured because of a malfunction in the mechanism used to implant the device.
