A San Clemente man was killed at his home Sunday when a crawl space collapsed around him while he tried to repair leaky plumbing, authorities said.
Francisco Mota Cabrera, 20, was buried under dirt and debris after he cut a hole through the garage wall of his home at 147 West Escalones, said Capt. Stephen Miller of the Orange County Fire Authority.
“He was in waist deep from the head down with his feet hanging out,” Miller said. “The house was sitting on a slope.”
Cabrera was pronounced dead at the scene immediately after firefighters arrived about 9:45 a.m., said Deputy Coroner Joseph Luckey.
