Generous presents for a 1-year-old.
At the start of its second season at Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Los Angeles Philharmonic announced Wednesday that $75 million has already been raised in a $100-million endowment campaign.
The biggest gift to the Phil -- $25 million -- came from the Walt and Lilly Disney Foundation, at the direction of their daughter, Diane Disney Miller. Other big presents include $8 million from the Annenberg Foundation, $5 million from the Colburn Foundation and $3 million from philanthropist Flora L. Thornton.
“This seems like the perfect finale to cap off what is possibly the most remarkable year any orchestra has had,” said Deborah Borda, the orchestra’s president.
