County Dist. Atty. Steve Cooley has announced he doesn’t plan to run for state attorney general in 2006.
Cooley, who was reelected as the county’s chief prosecutor in 2004, said he felt flattered by the many calls he received from supporters urging him to run for the state office but added that he has decided to remain in his current post until 2008.
“I made this decision several weeks ago and make it public today only because of continuing media inquiries and political speculation that I might run,” Cooley said, in a statement.
