An exhibition of ancient gold jewelry from Iraq will open in an as-yet-unannounced European city in October and then travel to 11 other cities around the world over the next five years, the Art Newspaper reported Friday. The tour will raise more than $10 million for Iraq’s National Museum, it said.
“The Gold of Nimrud: Treasures of Ancient Iraq” will feature about 300 objects dating from the 8th century BC. The itinerary for the tour, which is being organized by Copenhagen-based United Exhibits Group, is still being worked out, but it is expected to include several sites in the United States, including one in California, Art Newspaper said.
