Fighting words

It’s so enlightening to learn that the Bush administration spokespersons are now calling their war a “global struggle against violent extremism” [“ ‘War’? Oh, That’s Over,” by Robin Abcarian, Aug. 1]. I suppose it’s fitting, since dead children and civilians are now “collateral damage.”
Perhaps soon our military killed in the struggle will be said to have “attained their final transition” in reference to being dead.

In the national effort to clarify the “war on terror,” I would propose “the war on radical Islamism by ideological extremists seeking political cover for stealing Iraqi oil in lieu of a sustainable national energy policy.” A little wordy, perhaps, but much more transparent.
