Ice Cream Vendor Is Shot Dead on Street

An ice cream vendor was fatally shot Saturday afternoon in an apparent attempted robbery, police said.
The 63-year-old vendor was pushing his cart along the 200 block of East 56th Street about 1 p.m. when a man and two teenage girls approached, according to Los Angeles Police Officer Jason Lee.
The man pulled a gun and shot the vendor in the chest. He was taken to California Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Lee said.
The assailants fled in a light blue or gray Ford Tempo. No money was taken.
