Police Officers, Soldiers Sentenced in Uprising

Uzbekistan’s highest court sentenced 11 police officers, soldiers and prison doctors to as much as 11 years in prison in connection with a May uprising in the eastern city of Andijon.
Nine police officers and soldiers, including the Andijon police chief, were convicted of neglecting their duty and allowing rebels access to government buildings and weapons during the revolt, which was brutally suppressed by government troops.
Two doctors were convicted of complicity for passing messages between rebels and their alleged accomplices in the Andijon prison.
