Remembering the Train Crash Victims

Scott McKeown, one of those ordinary lives lost in the Glendale train accident and so eloquently written about by Steve Lopez (column, Jan. 28), was one of my ham radio buddies. I talked with him every week on my ham radio while he was on his way home in the evening. We talked about his children and his weekend activities that were planned with them. I am going to miss my chats with Scott, whose life, along with so many others, was so tragically cut short. Larry Cohen

Re: “Victims’ Chances of Winning Big Money Are Slim,” Jan. 28: Referring to compensation as “winning” is an offensive disservice not only to the victims of this horrific train crash but to all of us. It belies understanding and compassion for the deaths that occurred as well as the probable lifelong effects many of the injured will suffer. This was not a game these people chose to play; this was a routine commute that ended in devastating tragedy. Kathleen V. Williams
