Fire Started by Sparks Burns 160 Acres

The sparks from a chain saw cutting through a metal pipe started a fire Thursday that scorched 160 acres north of Yucaipa, fire officials said. About 135 personnel fought the blaze, which started at 8:10 a.m. in Crafton.
“It was an accident,” said Bill Nickles, of the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. “We don’t know if it was a contractor or a homeowner.”
The fire was 75% contained by evening and was expected to be under control by this morning, he said. No structures were damaged, and there were no reports of injuries, he said.
