Shoppers Snap Up Plaza Hotel’s Past

Thousands of shoppers withstood long lines and checkout mayhem for a liquidation sale at the Plaza Hotel as it undergoes renovation and conversion to residential condominiums.
From mini-bar and martini glasses to king-size mattresses and crystal sconces, the hotel’s merchandise filled its ballrooms and floors on the opening day of the six-week sale.
Glassware was priced as little as $2, and some of the most elegant furniture was several hundred dollars.
