Entomophobes and arachnophobes beware: There will be about 500,000 reasons for you to steer clear of Cal Poly Pomona this weekend. The school’s annual Insect Fair, which will feature nearly half a million live and display insects, returns Saturday and Sunday as part of the school’s Pumpkin Festival.
More than 70 tables of live insects and other critters, such as millipedes, centipedes, spiders and scorpions, will be on display. Included will be a tarantula the size of a dinner plate, a 10-inch-long millipede, some rather large walking sticks and a specimen of the world’s largest scorpion species. Sponsors in the Madagascar hissing cockroach races can win a giant rhinoceros beetle.
Proceeds from the fair benefit the Agriculture Biology Club to sponsor bug-hunting trips.
