* Stephanie Darnall, Laguna Beach: Served five aces to go with 27 kills and 19 digs to lead the host Breakers (5-2, 1-0) in a four-game victory over Irvine Northwood (4-4, 0-1).

* Alex Johnson, Westlake Village Westlake: Had 27 kills and 15 digs for host Warriors (4-1, 1-0) in the Marmonte League opener against defending league champion Newbury Park.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

* Tanner Riley, Huntington Beach Edison: Saved 10 shots, including two in the last eight seconds, to preserve a 15-14 victory for the visiting Chargers (3-2) over Millikan (3-2).

GIRLS’ GOLF

* Whitney French, Dana Point Dana Hills: Shot an even-par 36 to win medalist honors for the Dolphins (3-2) in a 247-250 victory over Carlsbad La Costa Canyon at El Niguel Golf Course. A sophomore, she has been medalist in each of Dana Hills’ five matches this season.

* Angela Park, Torrance: Senior shot a two-under par 34 to win medalist honors, leading the Tartars (3-0, 1-0) in a record-breaking performance at Rancho Park Golf Course. Torrance beat Beverly Hills by a score of 196 to 269, bettering their previous nine-hole record of 202.
