Nasdaq Stock Market Inc. changed the name of its Nasdaq SmallCap Market to reflect its listing of companies with a market value of as much as $50 billion.
The market will be called Nasdaq Capital Market and will continue to have less-stringent listing requirements than the national market, the company said Tuesday.
The Capital Market requires companies to have at least 300 shareholders and earnings from continuing operations in the last fiscal year of $750,000, instead of a minimum of 400 shareholders and profit of at least $1 million for the national market.
