From Times Wire Reports
The French government, taking a new step in its drive to clear the capital’s streets of tent encampments, said Paris authorities would provide accommodations for more than 1,100 homeless people.
The measure, expected to cost about $9 million, will transform temporary night shelters into places where the homeless can stay throughout the day.
Authorities say the effort stems from health and safety concerns. Activists accuse the government of acting on behalf of tourists and wealthy Parisians.
