Chicago 8, at Houston 6: The Cubs’ Matt Murton hit a homer in the ninth and a two-run single in the 18th in the longest regular-season game by innings in Minute Maid Park history.
San Francisco 3, at San Diego 2: Shea Hillenbrand singled in the go-ahead run with two out in the eighth inning and the Giants beat the slumping Padres. The last-place Giants won their second consecutive game after losing five in a row.
at St. Louis 5, Cincinnati 0: Chris Carpenter pitched a four-hitter and Ronnie Belliard had three hits and two runs batted in in his biggest game since joining the Cardinals at the trade deadline, helping them stop a three-game skid.
at Washington 5, Atlanta 0: Pedro Astacio pitched 4 2/3 perfect innings en route to a two-hit shutout. It was Washington’s first complete game of the season, leaving the Cubs as the only team in the majors without one in 2006.
Milwaukee 6, at Pittsburgh 3: Bill Hall hit a go-ahead single in the eighth inning and the Brewers beat the Pirates for only the second time in their last nine tries.
