Re “Joe Rosenthal, 94; AP Photographer Shot Marine Flag-Raising on Iwo Jima,” obituary, Aug. 22
Let us not forget the heroic young men who are seen raising that flag in Rosenthal’s historic photo. Mike Strank, Franklin Sousley, Rene Gagnon, Ira Hayes, Jack Bradley and Harlon Block. Three never made it off the island.
The sacrifice and perseverance of their generation guide our country to this day.
