A healthy newborn boy was found inside a cardboard box Tuesday at Valley Presbyterian Hospital, police said.
Hospital staff received a call alerting them that an abandoned baby was in the parking structure. Nurses and LAPD Officer Carlos Amaya searched the area and discovered the baby, who was awake and breathing normally. He appeared to be a few hours old, police said.
He was taken to the emergency room for observation and listed in stable condition.
Under the California Safely Surrender Baby Law, mothers will not face criminal charges if they leave unwanted babies at any Los Angeles County hospital emergency room or fire station within 72 hours of delivery.
