Color Upland’s victory green, the same hue with which Lauren Lane’s hair was tinted in a nod to her school’s primary color.
Lane scored the deciding goal in the 20th minute of a 2-1 victory over North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake that gave the Highlanders (27-0-4) their first Southern Section championship in the Division I final Saturday at Downey Warren.
“I felt like this was one of my better games,” said Lane, a senior midfielder. “We’re very happy. This is the destination we talked about at the beginning of the season, and we got here.”
Lane’s goal, her third of the season, gave Upland a 2-0 lead at intermission.
The unseeded Wolverines (16-3-5) rallied in the final 40 minutes as senior midfielder Caryn Rosoff scored her 10th goal of the season in the 47th minute. After that, senior midfielder Ali Riley had one goal called back by a foul in the 68th minute and she was tripped in the penalty area minutes later but no foul was called.
