Monmouth Wins Northeast Title

Chris Kenny drove the length of the court after a missed free throw to score with two seconds to play Wednesday night at Hackensack, N.J., to lift third-seeded Monmouth over top-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson, 49-48, for the Northeast Conference tournament title and berth into the NCAA tournament.
Bernell Murray missed the front end of a one-and-one with 8.3 seconds left after Monmouth’s Dejan Delic made two free throws to bring the Hawks (18-14) within 48-47 with 8.5 seconds left.
Marques Alston rebounded the miss and got the ball to Kenny, who drove and scored. The Knights (20-11) were unable to get a shot off at the buzzer.
Montana 73, Northern Arizona 60 -- The second-seeded Grizzlies (23-6) defeated the top-seeded Lumberjacks (21-10) at Flagstaff, Ariz., to win the Big Sky Conference tournament title. Northern Arizona is guaranteed a National Invitation Tournament berth as the regular-season champion.
No. 15 Pittsburgh 61, Louisville 56 -- The Panthers (22-6) defeated the Cardinals (18-12) in the first round of the Big East tournament despite not making a basket over the final 13 1/2 minutes at Madison Square Garden.
No. 23 Georgetown 67, Notre Dame 63 -- The fifth-seeded Hoyas (20-8), who missed their first 12 shots, defeated the Irish (15-13) to advance to the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament.
